TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES

(LEAMINGTON, ON) - One person has been charged following a traffic stop in Leamington.
On May 16, 2026, at approximately 8:11 pm, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a vehicle stop on Talbot Street East near Wigle Avenue in the Municipality of Leamington.
Peter KNELSEN KLASSEN, 37-years-old of Leamington was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act and Highway Traffic Act offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
- Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
- Owner operate motor vehicle without insurance
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Windsor on June 24, 2026, to answer to the charges.
