COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER FACING SEVERAL CHARGES

(PEMBROKE, ON) - A Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver is facing several Highway Traffic Act (HTA) charges after a traffic stop in the City of Pembroke.
On the morning of January 20, 2026, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop of a slow-moving tractor trailer CMV that was hauling a load of steel.
The CMV was inspected and major defects were noted, including an issue with the braking system, and the licence plates were seized.
As a result of this investigation the 30-year-old driver from Edmonton, AB, was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - CMV
- Defective brakes - CMV
- Drive CMV with a major defect
- Drive CMV without required inspection
- Unnecessary slow driving
The CMV was placed out of service due to major defects.
