(PEMBROKE, ON) - A local resident is facing charges after an impaired driving investigation in the City of Pembroke.

On April 12, 2026, at approximately 5:25 pm members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated an occupied parked vehicle on Albert Street in the City of Pembroke. Cannabis use was noted and an impaired driving investigation was initiated. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and the driver was taken into police custody.

As a result of this investigation 62-year-old John MAWDSLEY of Pembroke has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Cannabis Control Act (CCA) offences:

  • Operation while impaired - drugs
  • Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended and their vehicle was towed. The accused was released to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 12, 2026.
