20 Criminal Charges Laid

(PETAWAWA, ON) - Two Petawawa residents are facing several fraud-related charges after a criminal investigation was launched in January 2026. The Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after an area resident reported the theft and fraudulent use of several personal cheques.

As a result of this incident a 65-year-old from Petawawa has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Fraud under $5000 - three counts
  • Forgery - three counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 - three counts
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document - three counts

A second person, a 38-year-old from Petawawa, has been charged with the following CC offences:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Fraud under $5000 - two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 - two counts
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document - two counts

Both accused individuals were released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date. The names of the accused are being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
