IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES LAID AFTER SINGLE-VEHICLE COLLISION

(LAURENTIAN VALLEY TWP, ON) - A single-vehicle collision in the Township of Laurentian Valley (TLV) has resulted in several charges being laid against the driver.
On Friday April 10, 2026, at approximately 2:45 am, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision on Fibreboard Drive in TLV. Police were called to the scene after it was reported a vehicle had crashed in the ditch after being driven erratically in a parking lot. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken into police custody after being located on foot on Fibreboard Drive.
As a result of this incident 45-year-old Shawn POWER of TLV is charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA) offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Dangerous operation
- Driving under suspension - three counts
- Novice driver - refuse to provide breath sample
- Being intoxicated in a public place
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 90 days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 19, 2026.
