IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE LAID AFTER COLLISION INVESTIGATION

(PETAWAWA, ON) - A local resident is facing charges after an impaired driving investigation by members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On April 25, 2026, at approximately 5:40 pm the UOV OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver involved in a single vehicle collision after the vehicle entered the ditch on Highway 17 near Sutherland Road in Whitewater Region. The vehicle failed to remain, fled the scene and generated a second traffic complaint on the highway.
Officers located the damaged vehicle at a residence in Petawawa and the driver was identified. As part of the investigation a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, and the driver was taken into police custody.
As a result of this investigation 37-year-old Chelsea WHITEHEAD of Petawawa has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Fail to report accident
- Fail to remain
The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 2, 2026.
