SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVER

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) - Driver facing Impaired charge after traffic stop on suspicious vehicle.
On March 1, 2026, at 4:17 am, a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre, observed a suspicious vehicle on Gold Creek Drive at Nairn Road.
A traffic stop was initiated at which time the driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex OPP Detachment.
As a result, Aiden SMITS, a 19-year-old of Parkhill, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, Cannabis Control Act and Liquor Licence Control Act with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
- Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on April 16, 2026.
