TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES FOR DRIVER

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) - Driver facing multiple charges after traffic stop.
On April 8, 2026, at 11:45 pm, a member of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre, observed a vehicle travelling in excess of 50km/h over the posted 80km/h speed limit on Medway Road.
A traffic stop was initiated at which time the driver was placed under arrest.
As a result, Soumit SAHOO, a 21-year-old of Brampton has been charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Control Act with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Dangerous operation
- Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform stunt - Excessive speed
- Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample
- Consuming liquor in unauthorized place
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on May 14, 2026.
