TRAFFIC COMPLAINT LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) - Driver charged with impaired after traffic complaint received of possible impaired driver.
On May 29, 2026, at 7:44 pm, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Elgin Road in the Municipality of Thames Centre, for the report of a possible impaired driver.
The vehicle was located near Westchester Bourne at which time a traffic stop was initiated.
The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment.
As a result, James ROTHWELL, a 63-year-old of Cambridge, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Liquor Licence Control Act with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on July 9, 2026.
