DRIVER CHARGED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

Five Charges Laid

(TOWN OF ERIN, ON) - A driver is facing five charges following a traffic stop in Erin.

On April 21, 2026, at approximately 11:45 am, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive traffic patrol on Wellington Road 22 in Erin when they observed a motorist driving carelessly. The vehicle attempted to pass other traffic and narrowly avoided a collision.

As a result of the investigation, a 59-year-old from Hillsburgh, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Careless driving
  • Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
  • Fail to surrender insurance card
  • Fail to surrender permit or motor vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court - Guelph at a later date.
