OFFICER’S PROACTIVE EFFORTS LEAD TO ARREST OF IMPAIRED DRIVER

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged one person with impaired driving following a proactive traffic stop.

On October 5, 2025, shortly after 12:00 am, a member of the Wellington OPP, was conducting proactive patrol near local bars within Fergus and located a suspected impaired individual getting into their vehicle, which prompted a traffic stop.

As a result of the investigation, a 61-year-old from Clinton, has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph at a later date.

The identity of the accused will not be disclosed out of concern for their wellbeing.
