(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - A Grimsby driver is charged after going through a spot check.

On January 10, 2026, at approximately 2:15 pm, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) spot check on Carlton Place in Elora. During the check, officers observed a driver operating a vehicle in which several passengers were not wearing seatbelts, including two passengers under the age of 16.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old from Grimsby, is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Careless driving
  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to occupy position with a seat belt (two counts)
