LOCAL RESIDENT LOSES $500 THROUGH GIFT CARD SCAM

(TOWN OF MINTO, ON) - A Clifford resident has been defrauded of $500 by someone claiming to be a bank representative.
On November 28, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the report of a fraud involving a Clifford resident after they received a phone call from an unknown male posing as a bank representative.
The male convinced the victim to purchase $500 worth of gift cards and provide him with the redemption code. The victim attempted to purchase a further $3,500 worth of gift cards but thankfully was warned of a possible scam by a store employee. The victim then contacted police to report the scam.
