IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AT RIDE CHECK IN FERGUS

(CENTER WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - An impaired driver has been removed from the road after going through a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) spot check.

On May 30, 2026, at approximately 11:00 pm, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE spot check to examine the sobriety of drivers at the intersection of Wellington Road 18 and Wellington Road 29 in Fergus. A vehicle entered the checkpoint, where officers detected signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, Justin McCAULEY, a 36-year-old from St. Catherines, is charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on July 10, 2026.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
