GUELPH MOTORIST FACES CHARGES FOR STUNT DRIVING

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) - A Guelph driver has been charged after going twice the posted speed limit through a Community Safety Zone.
On May 5, 2026, at approximately 1:15 am, a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting proactive traffic patrol on Wellington Road 7 in Ponsonby and observed a motor vehicle travelling twice the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old from Guelph, has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Careless driving - community safety zone
- Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed - community zone
- Speeding 50+ km/h over posted limit
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 12, 2026.
A 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30 day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the provincial offences court - Guelph, at a later date
